We walk together
Exploring ancient landscapes
Revived by wonder
Byron and I visited the Mount Saint Helens volcano on a perfect late-September day in 2012. We drove into the national monument just as the morning fog receded and were gifted with the experience of the volcano being revealed from cloud-cover to crystal clear blue sky.
The landscape held the remains of the catastrophic 1980 eruption, yet also showed beautiful signs of recovery. I was struck by the abundant wildflowers - scarlet paintbrush and dwarf lupine - that blanketed the ground. I could have explored this wonder for days.
